Woodland Hills: From Heavy Spanish Roots to Soft Modern Flow
Honoring the Past, Reimagining the Future
When we first walked into this Woodland Hills home, it was clear the house had a strong identity. The original structure leaned heavily into traditional Spanish architecture thick walls, darker finishes, enclosed rooms, and a weight that felt grounded but visually heavy. While the bones were solid, the overall experience felt closed-off and dated for modern California living.
Our goal was never to erase the home’s history. Instead, we set out to reinterpret it to soften, refine, and evolve the Spanish character into something lighter, warmer, and more fluid, while preserving its soul.
Our Vision: Soft Spanish, Reimagined
The new design direction is best described as soft Spanish with a modern soul. We focused on balance pairing warmth with restraint, tradition with clarity, and texture with simplicity.
Throughout the home, we introduced a refined palette centered around natural materials:
Wood brings warmth and continuity, grounding the spaces without overpowering them.
Dekton slabs, used extensively across floors, walls, vanities, and surfaces, create a seamless and durable foundation while elevating the home with a clean, architectural feel.
Subtle textures and neutral tones replace visual noise, allowing the materials themselves to speak.
Arches, Soft Lines, and Architectural Flow
One of the most defining elements of the redesign is the use of arches and softened transitions. Instead of sharp corners and rigid separations, we introduced curved openings and gentle lines that guide you from one space to the next.
These arches nod to classic Spanish architecture, but in a quieter, more modern language. They create rhythm and movement, reinforcing the sense of flow while maintaining architectural depth.
Open Concept Living, Rebalanced
Opening up the floor plan was essential. Walls were removed or reworked to allow spaces to connect naturally kitchen to dining, dining to living, interior to exterior.
The result is an open concept that still feels intentional, not vast or undefined. Each space flows into the next while maintaining its own identity, unified by consistent materials, soft geometry, and thoughtful sightlines.
A Home That Breathes
Light now moves freely throughout the house. Natural daylight reflects off lighter surfaces, highlighting textures instead of weighing them down. Bathrooms feel spa-like and serene, living areas feel calm and expansive, and private spaces retain warmth without heaviness.
What was once a home defined by weight and enclosure is now defined by ease, softness, and flow.
